.KEY MESSAGES...
* Typical summertime heat today with dry weather and breezy winds
in the afternoon.
* Steady warming into the weekend with hottest conditions Sunday and
Monday. Be prepared for daytime heat impacts this weekend.
* Increased chances of showers and thunderstorms each afternoon
next week is becoming more likely.

.DISCUSSION...
Hot, summer days are in store leading up to the Independence Day
holiday as high pressure overspreads the region. Temperatures peak
in the 80s and 90s each afternoon with the hottest conditions on
Sunday and Monday when highs in Sierra and western Nevada
communities flirt with the 90 and 100 degree mark, respectively. As
a result, moderate (2 out of 4) HeatRisk will emerge across western
Nevada valleys each afternoon into next week. Be sure to practice
your heat safety precautions if planning outdoor activities this
weekend. Otherwise, typical zephyr breezes continue to arrive in the
afternoons.
Dry weather is expected today and Saturday with perhaps a stray
shower or two in the afternoon -- mainly in Mono and Mineral
counties. Isolated showers may mature into thunderstorms, but odds
remain at 10% or less throughout the weekend. An uptick in
thunderstorm activity is becoming increasingly likely next week as
weak low pressure slowly approaches the region. Best chances favor
areas north of Tahoe/Reno each afternoon, especially Lassen County
to far northern Washoe County. Thunderstorm potential seemingly
peaks Wednesday or Thursday with the passage of another weak low
pressure area, but it`s too far out to say with much certainty.

.AVIATION...
Widespread VFR conditions anticipated through the weekend as high
pressure overspreads the region. Breezy W/NW winds develop each
afternoon with maximum surface gusts of 20-25 kts at all terminals.
Dry conditions with afternoon cumulus build-ups will prevail through
the weekend with better chances of thunderstorm impacts next week.
